The Chi Lambda Lambda Chapter recognized Mr. Jimmy Akintonde as its 2024 Citizen of the Year for his exemplary leadership, sustained community impact, and commitment to economic empowerment. Mr. Akintonde serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Ujamaa Construction Inc., a general contracting and construction management firm headquartered in Chicago.
Since founding the company in 2002, he has grown Ujamaa from a single employee to more than ninety professionals. The firm serves as a member of the Lakeside Alliance, the construction team selected to build the Barack Obama Presidential Center.
Mr. Akintonde has leveraged his professional success to uplift south suburban communities through minority business participation, workforce development, and mentorship, earning honors including recognition by Crain's Chicago Business as one of Chicagoland's Notable Commercial Real Estate Leaders.
